AUGUST 2017: SHARON THORPE
As a long time water colorist, I have used many techniques, primarily water color paints, pencils, charcoal, and pastels, but I have also used oil . All of these mediums allow me to express my passion and love for nature. Quite simply, I use art as a tribute to the gift of God’s beauty all around us that we too often don’t notice.
I have loved to paint from an early age growing up in Michigan on a rural farm. We had many animals, beautiful woods full of flowers and trees, and the country side was always amazing to experience on our after church Sunday rides. Although I have never earned a degree in art, I have taken many art classes at different colleges and many private art classes with well-known teachers and artists in the many areas I have lived, Los Angeles, New York and Grand Rapids. I now take lessons from Diane Clise and Cindy Judge, both well-known award-winning artists that specialize in many techniques. I use some of the masters as great inspiration for techniques and roots for my subject matter. Georgia O’Keefe is, and has always been, one of my long-time favorites.
I will continue to take classes and paint many hours a day because it gives me great pleasure. I believe that whatever you do, do your best. It has always been a dream of mine to have my art featured as a one-person show, which is what I’m realizing here at Sweet Peony. My sincerest thanks to Ann & Mary Jo for making this dream a reality.
